Hospice Psychosocial Internships

Rainbow Hospice has a long standing commitment to professional health care education. This has been demonstrated by clinical internships for the following disciplines: Social Workers, Counselors, Pastoral Counselors, Psychology Interns, Art Therapists, Gerontologists, and related programs.

Over the years, Rainbow has had affiliations with the following universities: Jane Addams College of Social Work at University of Illinois, Chicago Campus, Southern Illinois University Social Work Program, George Williams University, Aurora University, Loyola University Social Work Program, Dominican University Social Work Program, DePaul University Counseling Program, Northeastern Illinois University Counseling Program, National Louis University Counseling Program, Argosy University Clinical Psychology Program, Roosevelt University Clinical Psychology Program, Concordia College, Loyola University Pastoral Counseling Program, University of Illinois Art Therapy Program, Adler Institute Art Therapy Program, and Art Institute of Chicago Art Therapy Program.

For these internships, clinical supervision is provided through a licensed clinical supervisor from our psychosocial staff. This usually is a representative from our patient care social work department or our bereavement program.

Some of the opportunities available to interns include:
  • Orientation program to end-of-life care, to Rainbow Hospice and discipline specific orientation
  • Counseling and Social Work role for patient/family care for our hospice patients
  • Counseling to bereaved from Rainbow Hospice and the community, group work, program planning, information and referral, working with a population from 3 to 93 plus years of age
  • Experience in working in an interdisciplinary team, and customized placements related to specific educational needs.

Our Good Mourning Program for bereaved children, teens and their families provides a special focus on working with bereaved children/families. Good Mourning is one of the most comprehensive programs for bereaved children, teens, and their families in the Chicago land area. It often includes a focus on sudden or traumatic grief in addition to normal grief.
