Nursing Students
Rainbow Hospice has contributed to nursing education for many years. Currently the agency has contractual relationships with Oakton Community College, Triton Community College, North Park University, Elmhurst College, West Suburban College of Nursing, Loyola University, Rush University and University of Illinois at Chicago. Additionally, on a yearly basis, Rainbow Hospice receives calls from other schools of nursing to offer assistance. As needed, Rainbow Hospice establishes contracts or provides assistance in other ways.
Rainbow Hospice provides clinical rotations for nursing students that vary from one-day observational experiences to multi-week rotations during which the nursing student is an active participant in the care of the hospice patient. All clinical rotations are directly supervised by a Rainbow Hospice nurse in conjunction with the faculty from the nursing school.
Additionally, the faculty of the Rainbow LIFE Institute for Learning is available to serve as educators as needed at the nursing schools. The LIFE Institute for Learning is often invited into the classroom to present an introduction to Hospice Care and the Role of the Nurse in Hospice Care.
