Hospice Clinical Pastoral Residency
Rainbow Hospice is distinguished by its long commitment to professional education in end-of-life care and its long mutually-enriching relationship with the Department of Mission and Spiritual Care at Advocate/Lutheran General Hospital.
The shared commitment to clergy end-of-life education was taken to a new level when the two health care institutions established the Rainbow Hospice Residency, a twelve-month residency available to the experienced pastoral care provider who wishes to focus his/her professional and personal development in serving those who live with life-limiting illness.
For this residency, Rainbow Hospice serves as the clinical site. Clinical pastoral supervision is provided through the Department of Mission and Spiritual Care at Advocate/Lutheran General Hospital. The resident participates in individual supervision as well as peer group work with the clinical pastoral resident serving within the Hospital. With his/her peers, the Rainbow Hospice Resident also shares in some on-call responsibilities at the Hospital.
At Rainbow Hospice the resident is part of a team which includes a manager for Spiritual Care and Healing Arts, staff chaplains, music therapists, and a PRN chaplain/ethicist. The resident shares responsibility with one of the staff chaplains for spiritual care services provided to patients and families served by one of the interdisciplinary teams. In addition, the resident has opportunity to participate in bereavement care and end-of-life education.
